World of Threads Festival – Interview with Emma Nishimura of Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Emma Nishimura from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, draws a lot of inspiration for her artwork from the complicated history of her grandparents. They were interned as Japanese Canadians in WWII. Using photographic records, she explores the relationships and interactions between the sites where these stories occurred and the memories themselves. Emma has also traveled to these locations, witnessing what remains, forming new memories – an extension and continuation of the original story.
